We will play two items.  The Beethoven Violin Concerto Op 61 arranged for soloist and string quartet and Mendelssohn’s String Symphony No 10.  The string quartet arrangement for the Beethoven will work well with a string orchestra and we have a guest soloist, Andrew Winter.  Many thanks to David Hulbert who has put us in touch with Andrew.

Programme

Part 1

Ludwig van Beethoven – Violin Concerto in Major Op 61 – Arranged for Solo violin and strings.

Guest Soloist Andrew Winter

Tea break

 Part 2

Felix Mendelssohn – String Symphony No 10 in B Minor

Future Dates

We have some new dates to mark in the diary for upcoming String Workshops.

Sunday 11th May 2025 – 1:30 – 4:30

What we do in the Workshops

The purpose is to provide members of WSO and guests to a ‘play in’ afternoon when there will be opportunities for participants to play through movements of concertos amongst other items. The workshops are normally be led Rosemary Fitchett (Leader of WSO) but occasionally we have some guest conductors.

They are very relaxed affairs with a good interval halfway through to enjoy tea and cakes.

String Workshop in Action Feb 2024 – debating if jam or clotted cream should be spread first on the tea-time scones.
