Further Concerts Dates
Autumn Concert – Saturday 14th November 2026 at Bancroft School Hall
Rossini – Tancredi Overture

Tancredi is a herioic opera written by Rossini based on the novel of the same name by Voltaire. It was first performed in 1813 at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice. Such was the demand for the 20 year old Rossini that he was preparing for the opening of Tancredi at the same time as writing Il Signor Burshchino.
It is considered one of Rossini’s finest opera. However, little know fact… it originally had a happy ending, but after the first run, Rossini changed the ending so the hero died in the arms of his lover.
Mozart – Piano Concerto No.23

This is one of Mozart’s most popular Piano concertos. It was finished in March 1786, (followed by is next Concerto only 3 weeks later!) and was performed, probably by Mozart himself at one of his 3 subscription concerts given that spring.
It’s most memorable part is the second movement which, if played as Adagio is one of the most moving pieces he ever wrote. Interestingly it is also the only movement of his concerti to be written in F# Minor.
Schubert – Symphony No. 6

Nicknamed “The Little C Major” to distinguish it from the 9th Symphony (“Great C Major”) Schubert’s 6th Symphony was composed between Oct 1817 and Feb 1818.
However it’s first public performance was not until 1828 Franz Schubert’s 6th Symphony was not performed during his lifetime because (mainly due to the lack of interest at the time in his orchestral works as opposed to his Lieder) and it only premiered four weeks after his death when a planned performance of his 9th Symphony proved too difficult.
